Why I'm Obsessed: Spring has sprung, I see tulips in my garden, “the cruelest month” (according to TS Eliot) is nearly behind us, and I say we celebrate the advent of May with a blend that just TASTES like all the happy parts of springtime: for me, that’s always Snowdrop Blend from Boston-based Pavement. I like that they lean into more of a medium roast for this blend, which brings a depth of profile to a cup with a distinctly floral character. Snowdrop combines washed coffees from Kenya, Ethiopia, and Peru into a “greatest hits” of bright, floral coffees. Upfront, I taste ripe raspberry, a juicy sweetness like purple plum, and a jasmine florality that’s creamy and spicy all at once. The finish, as it cools, is reminiscent of sweet tea with a lemon wedge. The medium roast means that it’s fruity without being delicate, bright without being tart, and Goldilocks-level toasty, like a scone right out of the toaster. I am just waiting for it to be warm enough to brew this one over ice – a fun callout to the blend's namesake, a flower that often emerges from snowy, frozen ground.
