Tony's Coffee
Seattle, WA
Roasting responsibly since 1971
Curator's Notes
Tony's Coffee has been roasting in Bellingham, Washington since 1971, making them one of the longest-running specialty roasters in the Pacific Northwest. From the very beginning, they've roasted in small batches, sourced the best beans they could find, and let their values guide every decision. In 2002 they became one of the first coffee roasters in the country to source organic, Fair Trade, shade-grown coffee from farmer-owned cooperatives. In 2012 they became a founding member of World Coffee Research. Today their operations are fully carbon neutral, and by 2030 they're pledging to offset their entire carbon emissions dating all the way back to 1971. Roast Magazine's 2021 Macro Roaster of the Year, recognized for their vibrant company culture, community involvement, and commitment to ethical sourcing. The more you learn about Tony's, the more you love them. In the cup, expect beautifully toasty, medium-roasted coffees with a wide catalogue of comforting blends and a handful of exceptional single origins.
From the Roaster
The smell of freshly roasted coffee came to Bellingham in 1971. From the beginning, we roasted our coffee in small batches, selecting the best beans we could find from around the world. In the early years we roasted in our coffeehouse, a street level space in Fairhaven’s historic Terminal Building. We filled customer’s orders from glass jars with freshly roasted beans from Antigua, Guatemala to Yirgacheffe, Ethiopia. Our commitment to sourcing high quality, sustainable coffee has always guided our path. In 2002, we became one of the country’s first coffee roasters to source organic, fair trade, shade grown coffee from farmer-owned cooperatives. In 2004, we became members of the US Roasters Guild and, in 2012, we became a founding member of World Coffee Research, whose work help ensures the future of sustainable coffee production.
